Jessica Wu is a professional musician and teacher from Toronto. She plays the piano, flute and piccolo,
and is fluent in English, Mandarin, and French. She holds the revered ARCT Diploma in Performance for Piano
from The Royal Conservatory of Music
(RCM) and has taught piano one-on-one to over 140 students in the past 10 years.
The ARCT Diploma, which stands for the
‘Associate of The Royal Conservatory of Music,’ is the highest academic standing awarded by The Royal Conservatory of Music and
is respected internationally as a teaching and performance qualification.
Jessica possesses perfect
pitch - also known as absolute pitch - which allows her to identify the exact notes that are played on the piano
solely through hearing the notes and without seeing the keyboard nor having any other references.
During her 9 years of playing the flute, Jessica has been featured as a soloist in many performances in Toronto and in cities
in the United States. She has also been playing the piccolo for 7 years.
Jessica has been teaching piano for over 10 years to more than 140 students of all ages and levels of experience.
Her approach is what sets her apart.
Her continuous teaching success is rooted in her unique ability to customize innovative teaching methods to
each student’s natural needs. Jessica’s flexibility and keen observation allows her to readily adapt to the individual, regardless
of the student’s ability or learning style. Her encouragement, inspiration, and patience help her students learn to read notes
accurately and extremely quickly so they can move beyond simply playing the notes on the pages. Jessica also equips her students
with the skill to quickly recover and continue playing even if memory slips or errors are inevitably made. As a direct result
of her teaching approach and dedication, her students gain confidence in their playing which naturally makes room for Jessica
to further develop their musicianship.
Jessica also ensures that the skills learned transcend beyond the piano and are just as applicable to her students’ daily lives.
Her ability to simplify musical concepts plays an integral role in ensuring students at any age learn at their optimal capability
and retain exactly what is needed to advance as quickly as possible.
Jessica’s knowledge, integrity and professionalism naturally earn the respect of students and parents alike. Her age is also a rare
asset which allows her to connect and communicate to younger students just as easily as she does with her mature students.
Jessica specializes in private piano lessons; however, she also keeps an opening for group piano lessons.

Jessica is a seasoned Rudiments and Music History teacher. These theory courses are required to obtain the
Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Certificates
for Grade 7 Piano and higher.
Jessica’s expertise lies in the area of providing Accelerated Theory Lessons. These lessons cater to those who wish
to cover all the required RCM exam material in as few lessons as possible and who may not wish to wait for theory classes to begin at
other institutions. Many of Jessica’s students have completed these theory courses within 3 months and have achieved excellent marks
on their RCM theory examinations. These theory lessons are perfectly suited to students who have strong, independent study skills, and
those who have busy or conflicting schedules.
Sight Reading/Playing and Ear Test
(“Ear Test is listening to one, or a set of notes, and being able to differentiate what note(s), quality, key, chord, or interval they
are without seeing the keyboard. Ear test also includes being able to play back or mimic a melody that is heard.”) are compulsory areas
tested in the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) piano examinations. These two areas are often the most challenging to the piano
students.
Jessica is one of the very few piano teachers who has identified this niche market and is passionate about bridging this gap for students.
Although born with perfect pitch, she is able to translate this natural ability into a skill and strategy that can be learned and perfected.
Jessica’s attention focuses on students who need an extra boost in these areas – who wish to perform better on their piano exams and/or
gain a well-rounded music education as a whole.
“Although 86% of piano teachers polled rated sight-reading as the most important or a highly important skill, only 7% of them said
they address it systematically. Reasons cited were a lack of knowledge of how to teach it, inadequacy of the training materials they use,
and deficiency in their own sight-reading skills. Teachers also often emphasize rehearsed reading and repertoire building for successful
recitals and auditions to the detriment of sight-reading and other functional skills.” (Hardy 1998)
